I looked at the screen and smiled. Chosen, ordered, paid, and…hope springs now eternal for my upcoming 2013 garden.
There are three rules I’m having to keep for myself when thinking about My Little Victory Garden this year. I probably won’t add “Phase 3,” meaning – raised bed number three will need to wait until 2014. The only extra space will be to expand my edible landscaping. And, make very sure I’m growing things I can’t buy readily or cheaply at my local farmer’s markets.
Hence, the list above.
The only place I found purple carrots this past year was in grocery stores like Whole Foods, Uptown Market and Sprouts. Therefore, I’m going to try to grow my own.
I waited and waited for French Tarragon to pop up at my local outlets, but none ever surfaced. 2012 was a Tarragon-less year. 2013 shall avenge last year’s barren space that was the lack of this special herb.
Finally, I have a little space in my front flower bed and it’s high time I plant a currant bush. I love currants – black, red, white…all of them. And I want to try to grow some in order to lay them delicately on top of cheesecake, stir up a lovely jam, or juice into my iced tea. I need to see the results of this trial, and if this pilot test works, I shall plant more!
So, now I’m practicing patience. A lesson I’ve not yet learned with 49 years under my life belt. Hurry, oh mail order o’ mine! I want to hold you in my hands!
I love French Tarragon! And purple carrots are awesome, too. I just picked the first of our radish crop, they seem to love our cooler winter weather.
I’m so glad you are harvesting radishes right now! I don’t usually grow them through our winters…they’re just too harsh. Ah, for a crips veggie – enjoy!
